How 2012 could make 2013 better

As we approach the end of 2012 do you know how well your marketing has done this year?  It’s never been easier to track your marketing activity and there are lots of marketing tools to help you.

Google Analytics

This is where you find out how many people visited your website and where they came from.  Use the information to find out what is working and what needs to be tweaked.


If you shortened a link with Hootsuite you can find out how many people responded to it.  We use this tool to work out what type of Tweet works and when the best time to post it is.

Email Reports

We check our email marketing reports to monitor open rates.  If open rates are low we try ways to encourage recipients to open them.

Tracking Numbers

We use tracking numbers on campaigns to judge how successful they are. This is a great way to monitor offline marketing and judge what works.

Pen & Paper

Pen & paper is probably not the right term, our handwriting is appalling. In our case we use a computer spreadsheet to look at each client and where the lead came from. This is particularly good if you do a lot of business networking.

Once we have a clear idea of what worked we revise our marketing plan, doing more of what works, doing less of what doesn’t and rethinking things that could be good but need some work.
