Lots of businesses tell us that they gain new business by word of mouth, and undoubtedly this is a great way to get leads.  However like all methods of marketing your business you need procedures in place to make this more likely to happen.  So here are a few suggestions for you to implement to encourage people to send business your way.

Referrals


Do you ask your clients for referrals? Most of us hate cold-calling but if you can phone someone and say that someone known to them suggested you call it all becomes less painful.  Why not ask if they know someone who would appreciate your  services when you complete the work you do for them.

Testimonials


Do you ask for testimonials when you have finished a job?  Testimonials are a way that people can see that your customers are happy with your work.  There are websites such as thebestofhenleyonthames that will assist you with gaining testimonials and you should include them on your website.

Feedback forms


So far we've suggested you ask verbally for a referral and feedback when you finish a job.  A more systematic approach would be to send a feedback form asking how you performed but also asking for a referral and testimonial.  Schedule a time to send these out to businesses that you have recently worked with.
