It's Not Over Until The Last Race is Run

As many of you know I’m a very keen follower of horse racing. Every year I attend the Cheltenham Festival. This year I decided to take Gillian along for a second day to see the Gold Cup on Friday. Friday also included the running of the amateur riders’ Gold Cup, the Foxhunter’s Chase. This was the race that Victoria Pendleton was riding in on a horse called Pacha Du Polder. Victoria had trained for over a year to enable her to ride in this race. Despite the moaning of many critics saying that she was too inexperienced and a danger to herself, and other riders, she rode with great skill and managed to finish a fast closing fifth.

So what has little ol Phil Chappell got in common with Victoria Pendleton, apart from a love of cycling!! Well Victoria kept going despite falling off in another race and being criticised in the media.

My story is one of keeping on betting despite 27 losing bets.

The bookies were hammered at Cheltenham as favourite after favourite won well. Myself, not being a favourite lover, had losing ticket after losing ticket. However a lesson learned from observing Chinese punters many years ago is not to give up and stick to your usual method of selecting your bet. Well you’ve probably guessed by now. On the 28th ,and last race, I scored big with a 44/1 winner on the Tote called Solar Impulse. Leaving me a bit up on the week. Phew! Get out of jail card.

The moral of my story is stick to your guns in business and if your methods have been successful in the past don’t change them. Also as in Victoria Pendleton’s case surround yourself with experts who can help you perform to your best. If you have belief in yourself ignore the critics and get your head down. My moral is not to give up! There is always a last race.

PS Or give up gambling!
