The Boom in Social Media Continues; are you missing out?

Over the last few weeks 4 social media channels have announced their figures for the first quarter of 2017. They make impressive reading – not just because of the sheer number of people using the platforms but also in some cases the rate of growth.

Social Media Statistics for Quarter 1 2017

They make impressive reading – not just because of the sheer number of people using the platforms but also in the case of Instagram, the rate of growth.

Facebook now has 1.94 billion users with 1.28 of those users logging in daily. Europe has 307 million users, nearly 16% of the Worldwide total. You cannot afford to ignore Facebook, especially if you sell to consumers. However with so many businesses having seen the value of a Facebook page it can be harder to reach your intended audience.  It is still possible to get good organic reach but to ensure you really reach customers you need to include advertising in your strategy.

Instagram has gained 100 million users in just 4 months. Back in December 2016 the addition of 100 million users in 6 months was being celebrated. This brings the total number of users to 700 million. We have recently worked with some businesses that sell products – Instagram is a “no-brainer” for them.

LinkedIn has added 33 million users since October 2016 to bring the total number of users up to 500 million. As a business selling to other businesses we like LinkedIn, I much prefer to keep my business contacts there rather than Facebook. However Facebook is trying to edge into this marke, I’m not sure about successful they will be. If your business sells to other businesses LinkedIn is the place to be. The information available LinkedIn can lead you to the right people to build your business, find you staff and suppliers, and provide you with plenty of background information about people you would like to work with.

To our surprise, and it would seem to other people too, Twitter also announced that it had gained an additional 9 million followers bringing the total amount of users to 328million. Twitter is a good driver of traffic but the real benefit of it comes when you are prepared to get into conversation. Whether that be about politics, TV shows conferences, events or products.

The continued growth of all these social media channels indicate that they have an important part to play in your media strategy. The key is to find a strategy that works and can be implemented successfully for the channels you do choose. Give us a call to discuss what channel is right for your business.
